When I try to run the program, I get the application error "Class not registered". The program seems to work, but the actors are silent. The program seems to work, but the sound is "choppy" Error message: "The character is already loaded. Check for previous Load method calls." When I try to run the program, I get the application error "Class not registered" The likely cause of this is that you do not have Microsoft Agent installed
on your computer. To remedy this, see Downloading
and Installing The program seems to work, but the actors are silent. The likely cause (other than not having your loudspeakers connected
properly) is that you do not have the appropriate text-to-speech engine
installed on your computer. See Downloading &
Installing If you are using Windows XP, then you also need to have downloaded and run the file spchapi.exe from the Microsoft web site. This will install the Microsoft SAPI 4.0 speech runtime support which is omitted from Windows XP. The program seems to work, but the sound is "choppy" This is related to the performance of your system with the Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice text-to-speech engine. It is difficult to specify minimum hardware requirements, as CPU speed does not tell the whole story; but thus far the slowest machine on which Line-Run has been tested successfully was running a 266Mhz Pentium MMX. Another issue you may with to consider is the correct installation of the most recent driver for your soundcard. Error message: "The character is already loaded. Check for previous Load method calls." This occurs when two or more Microsoft Agent characters with the same name are present on the system - either due to a duplicate copy of one Agent, or two different Agents that just happen to have the same name. Line-Run v1.12 loads Agents from two separate locations - the "C:\Windows\MSAgent\Chars" folder (the default location for Microsoft Agent characters), and the "Actors" folder within the folder where you installed Line-Run (something like "C:\Program Files\Line-Run\Actors"). One of the Agents will have to be renamed, deleted or moved to another folder. If the two Agents are duplicates, just renaming will not help as they will still have identical ID numbers internally. Note that Windows ME includes the characters "Merlin" and "Wizard". As you might suspect, these are actually the same character under different names. If they are both present in the "Chars" folder, Line-Run v1.12 will try to load them both, causing an error. Either remove one of them from the "Chars" folder, or upgrade to Line-Run v1.13 or later. From v1.13 onwards, Line-Run only loads characters from the "Actors" folder to avoid the above problem. This occurs when the cast-list of a Line-Run script calls for an Actor (or Agent) that cannot be found in either the "C:\Windows\MSAgent\Chars" folder or the Line-Run "Actors" folder. To remedy this, assign a different actor to the part within the cast-list. This is caused by the installation program used for early releases of Line-Run. The first time you restart your PC after installing the program, a DOS batch file deletes the temporary installation files. Just click on the "X" close gadget at the top right corner of the DOS window and start-up will continue as normal. The message should no re-occur. Note that the current release of Line-Run uses a different installation program to avoid this harmless but potentially alarming message. |
